Pumpkin Patching

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Pumpkin picking has been something I have been longing for the last three years. Personally, I am not a fan of pumpkin picking from a cardboard box outside of Albertsons. I get why people do it (pumpkins from pumpkin patches can be a little overpriced), but why miss out on a great time? I remember when I was a little girl my mom would take my brother, sister, and I to this little pumpkin patch in our home town where we'd have to clip our own pumpkins from the vine and push the wheelbarrow to the car; we had the full experience and I loved every bit of it. Eventually the little farm went out of business and for years we were forced (yes forced, I was very upset that I couldn't pick my pumpkin from the vine) to store pick our pumpkins. One year while visiting family in Escondido, my aunt had taken me to a giant pumpkin patch; I don't remember how old I was, but I sure do remember the Bates Nut Farm pumpkin patch. Ever since, I have been wanting to go back and this year (after being deprived for so many years) I was able to take my little family to experience that very pumpkin patch. Bates Nut Farm offers not only a wide range of pumpkins to pick from, but also yummy food, activities for all ages, live music, special events, and I can't forget to mention their amazing store filled with deliciousness and unique finds.

It probably is not surprise to you when I say I am a total disbeliever in Trunk or Treat or anything that has been "modernized" when it comes to holidays. For me, things like trick or treating on any other day besides Oct.31 takes away from the holiday, the fun, and the experience that makes memories so special. Something that is very important to me, is keeping the origins of holidays present. For as long as pumpkin patches are around, I will be taking my family to them. Changes are great, but sometimes a little tradition and old school ways are better.

Here's me feeling super awkward and uncomfortable in front of the camera. Please excuse the messy brows and strictly mascara face.
