Bedroom Recharge

Our bedroom is a place where I find peace. It’s where I usually go when I’m stressed or simply need to unplug. It is where we dream, love and often times where we are most vulnerable. This post is all about how I make our bedroom the safe haven we deserve.

Keep It Tidy & Organize // This is the room that I have to keep tidy at all times if there’s clutter in our bedroom chances are there is clutter in my mind. Before I leave the house I always make sure that at the very least our bed is made and the area is clear. Starting your day off in a space that’s clutter-free will do wonders for your mind and soul.

Lighting // This is an aspect that tends to be often overlooked. We once lived in an apartment where the master bedroom had zero lighting features other than the two side windows, which was fine during the day (there wasn't even a connection in the ceiling), but ever since then we always make sure that there are optimal lighting opportunities in every room.  Personally, I love a bright naturally lit room, but I also love the light that a table lamp can offer during the evening. I am not huge on ceiling lighting or fans, but if I had to choose I would go with recessed lighting or a chandelier. Ditch traditional blinds and opt for window treatments.

Unplug & Unwind // While it’s not realistic for us to have a completely electronic free zone in our bedroom, we do have a rule of no phones in the room unless it’s to listen to a story/podcast or noise. No social media in bed.

Plants // I’m a sucker for house plants, I honestly don’t know how people can live without plants in every room. Some of my favorite plants for the bedroom are; Snake Plant, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Aloe Vera and Philodendron. Even just a small vase of flowers can bring life to a room.

Bright & White Linens // If you know me then you know I am all about everything white in the home, it helps keep things calm. All the bedding in our home is white. All white bedding offers a fresh and clean look. I like to add visual interest with a decorative pillow or throw and some wall art. Keeping things white also makes it easier and less expensive to swap things out or move things to another room throughout the seasons.

Scents // One of my favorite things about living in Florida was opening the windows after a good storm, something about the smell of fresh rain and grass instantly cleared my mind. The way a room smells can alter your mood, so grab your diffuser! I’m currently loving a blend of orange, eucalyptus, tea tree, and rosemary.
