OUR SUMMER READING LIST

Friday, July 19, 2019

As a kid, I can remember taking my blanket, stuffed animals and books outside and laying underneath the shaded grass in my backyard, talk about nostalgia. I used to beg my mom to take me to the library to sign me up for their summer reading program, I've always loved books. Nowadays, the only time I find myself able to dive into a good book is when the kids are playing in the sprinklers or falling asleep early after a long day in the sun, and yes, I am taking full advantage of it. We try to do a bed a bedtime story for the Lyla and Leo every night if the evening goes as planned, but I also like to encourage reading for at least thirty minutes during the day. We're big on books, so we're always on the hunt for new ones to add to our shelves. I wanted to share a few of our favorites and some others that are on our reading list this summer.
Currently Reading

Little Fires Everywhere  // It's not often that I get this excited about a book I am obsessing over this read right now and highly recommend that you get it. I am super excited for the Hulu series to be released sometime next year. Reese Witherspoon has been killing it lately (btw, is anyone watching Big Little Lies?) and I could totally see this series also winning an award.

Next Level Basic// It's no secret that I'm shamelessly addicted to Vanderpump Rules. Stassi has been my favorite cast member on the series since the very beginning and contrary to what you might believe this book has a lot to offer.

Hello Glow// This book is filled with beautiful pictures and natural DIY beauty recipes if you're looking into safer alternatives.

Platters and Boards// I have been wanting this book for a while, but I somehow always get distracted by all the books I want to buy for the kids, so when I saw it on sale during Amazon Prime Day I just had to fiiinallly get it. I'll be seeking inspiration from this book for the holidays to come.
What The Littles Are Reading

National Parks of the USA// Being that we are a family that loves to explore, Lyla loves learning about new places and telling us all about the places she has been. This is such a great book for little adventurers.

We Are the Gardeners // The kiddos got this book for Easter and Lyla has been asking to read it over and over, so we do and afterward, we love our plants.

Mermaid School // Lyla can't stop talking about the First Grade and it just so happens that she is also obsessed with mermaids which made this book a perfect birthday gift for her this year. It has also inspired her to play "Mermaid School" on her own for hours at a time – a win, win.

Petra // The illustrations in this book are just too darn cute and it carries a simple yet beautiful message.

A few other books that we've been reading have been Never Tickle A Tiger (I love how she couldn't sit still, I feel like every child and mom/teacher/nanny can relate to this book), I Had A Favorite Dress (this is Lylas favorite book at the moment and perfectly fitting being that she is growing out of her favorite dresses at lightspeed.) and Wendell the Narwhal. If you know us, you know we love a theme. Reading books about the ocean and adventure make visiting the beach and the mountains even more fun.

What are you reading this summer?
